How to Brew the Perfect French Press Coffee at Home

Few brewing methods capture the soul of coffee like the French press. Simple yet refined, it delivers a rich, full-bodied cup that highlights the depth and character of your beans. Unlike paper-filter methods, the French press allows the natural oils and fine particles to remain in the brew, resulting in a texture and flavor that’s bold, aromatic, and deeply satisfying.

Beloved by coffee purists and beginners alike, the French press requires no electricity, no pods, and no fuss—just hot water, freshly ground coffee, and a few quiet minutes. Whether you're starting your morning or taking a thoughtful pause in the afternoon, brewing with a French press is more than a method—it's a ritual.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Grind the Coffee
Use a coarse grind—like breadcrumbs. Avoid fine grinds, which can over-extract and create sludge.

2. Preheat the French Press
Rinse with hot water to warm the glass. Discard water.

3. Add Coffee Grounds
Add the ground coffee to the carafe. Tare the scale if using.

4. Start Timer & Add Water
Pour in half the hot water (about 225g). Start your timer.

5. Let It Bloom – 30 Seconds
Allow the coffee to release gas. Stir gently to saturate all grounds.

6. Add Remaining Water
Top up with the remaining water (to 450g total). Cover with the plunger lid, pulled up.

7. Brew – 4 Minutes Total
Let it steep undisturbed.

8. Plunge Slowly
After 4 minutes, press the plunger down gently and evenly.

9. Serve Immediately
Pour and enjoy right away. Don’t let it sit—it keeps brewing and gets bitter.
